What is your project?

Many people want to do all kinds of things for God. We have our ideas of what God would like, and we devote ourselves to it. These are often certainly not wrong things, but we may ask ourselves whether the "project" we are so fully committed to is also God's project. If you were to ask God right now - today - the question, "What is Your project?", what would He say?

Of course, asking this question is dangerous, because we don't want to put words in God's mouth, but in Acts, you see a "project" that God is working on with particular love. I am talking about the church, the people who believe in Jesus, follow Him, and are His disciples. Together they reflect something of who He is. I imagine that God has many projects, but that this "project" has special value to Him. After all, the Father gave His Son for it. He promised His Holy Spirit to it.

In this episode of The Chosen, we find a man - Nathanael - who wants to build a house for God, a synagogue. A place of worship. A place of prayer. What a beautiful desire. It can't be beautiful enough for him. What a fiasco it must have been when his whole dream, his whole structure collapsed.

Maybe you feel the same way sometimes. You desire to do this or that for the Lord, and with full commitment you go for it. But instead of things coming to fruition, it seems to break down under your hands. "How then, Lord!" - you may exclaim. This all could have been so beautiful.

First and foremost, the Lord is not concerned with what you can do for Him. It is primarily about Him meeting you.

And from that encounter with Jesus, you may go on the road with Him.

Along the way, there is just a chance that Jesus will give you a role in His great project.

A place of worship.

A place of prayer.

A place of encounter.

A place of healing.

A place of comfort.

A place of freedom.

One place.

Think about the following questions:

  • What would you like to do for the Lord?
  • Do you recognize yourself in Nathanael as encountered in The Chosen?
  • Have you ever experienced that it seemed like things were breaking down under your hands when you were so eager to do something for the Lord? What did that do to you?
  • What place has the Lord given you?

Prayer: "Lord, my hands are open. I am available. You may put in and take out what is needed. I want to serve You. I want to commit myself to Your 'project.' Will You show me where and in what ways I may do that?

Lord, my hands are open. Open, full of worship. Open to comfort, and touch. Open to help. Here are my hands Lord - I would like to use them for You. Amen."
