When You Feel Intimidated

Nehemiah had taken up the brave task of rebuilding the wall around his beloved Jerusalem. Even though he asked to do this and was passionate about it, he still dealt with intimidation. Some enemies did not want Nehemiah and the people to succeed in this task, so they began threatening the workers.

The workers were afraid and thought about quitting; still, Nehemiah encouraged them and led them through their fear. When faced with intimidation, Nehemiah reminded them to “remember the Lord who is great and awesome, and fight for [their] brothers, [their] sons, [their] daughters, [their] wives, and [their] houses” (Nehemiah 4:14).

When you feel intimidated, you must first remember that intimidation only comes from the enemy. Often, this intimidation is a response out of fear; the enemy sees the great things God is doing through you and is terrified of what will happen if you succeed.

Intimidation is not a need to stop; if anything, intimidation should be the fuel that inspires us to keep going. When you’re faced with intimidation, persevere through it. Remember that God is great and awesome; if He’s called you to this work, He will help you complete it. Perseverance may also require you to fight for what God has promised you. Fight for your families, dreams, and homes. Fight for the promises you know are coming, and remember: nothing great is accomplished without obstacles.

The next time intimidation rears its ugly head, remind yourself that you’re on the right track, and use it as fuel to accomplish the things God has put on your heart!
