Uncommonनमूना
“My mother was the most beautiful woman I ever saw. All I am I owe to my mother. I attribute my success in life to the moral, intellectual, and physical education I received from her.” George Washington
Fathers have an important role in the family structure. They are called to strengthen and lead their families in Christ. They are also called to love wives more than themselves. I believe the best dads love their wives fiercely and faithfully. We, as men, are called to build up our wives in everything they do, including motherhood.
Moms have a high calling as well; it just seems to come a little bit more easily to them. Most mothers seem to have an innate response when their little one is born - moms love and nurture very easily. To elaborate on this calling and what it feels like to be in it, I’ve asked my daughter, DeAnna, to share her experience:
“Even though many wonderful traits come naturally to moms, The Lord calls women to be set apart. It’s not just ensuring that everyone has what they need and knows what to do, but also being the cheer captain of the household. Moms are called to encourage their husbands and children even when they don’t do exactly what we would like them to do.
I know my greatest struggle as a mom is not crumbling under the weight of being enough. I’ve come to understand that there is not enough enoughness I can conjure to be enough. For those of us in Christ, He IS enough on our behalf. When I can submit to that, my wins and losses as a wife and mom are put in their rightful place.
I’m not called to be a perfect wife. I’m called to point my husband to the perfect Lord Jesus. I’m not called to be a perfect mom. I’m called to point my daughter to the perfect Father.
We as moms need to be intentionally looking for all of the wonderful things that The Lord has given us in our own families: our own husbands and children. We should be uncommonly thankful for this role of motherhood The Lord has given us and step into it in love and grace.
Read Proverbs 31 to see the powerful and unique impact a woman can have on her family.”
DISCUSSION QUESTIONS:
- We need moms. We need women. Strong women. How does Scripture model a woman of godly strength and character?
- Pick a woman in Scripture and describe what sets her apart from the culture around her.
- I realize the topic of motherhood is hard for many…If your earthly mom failed you (which is true for all of us), use this time to reflect on how good your Heavenly Father is. Allow Jesus to fill up all of the spaces your earthly mother lacked. It’s a journey.

The purpose of this devotional is to take a deeper look into the "uncommon" living for those of us walking with Jesus. We are declared holy through Christ, so how do we walk in that holiness? How can we be set apart and walk out our holiness?
