Daily Double: Psalm Seriesनमूना
Welcome to the Daily Double Psalm Series!
The Daily Double is about experiencing joy with Jesus every single day by doing two things: reading the Bible and praying.
Each day during the Psalm series we have prepared a video & some notes to help you get the most out of your daily double devotional.
We're aiming not only to teach you the meaning of the psalm but teach you skills that'll help you get the most out of your daily devotions for the rest of your life!
Here are some things you need to know to help you get the most out of the videos & written devotionals.
Each video & devotional will contain the following:
(1) WHY THIS PSALM?
We'll start with a short thought about the psalm you are about to read. It will help you understand the psalm better. It’ll be like putting on sunglasses to make seeing the things you need to see in the psalm a lot easier.
(2) VITAL VERSE
We'll pick out the verse we think is the heart of the psalm. It's the verse to memorise to remind yourself of the whole Psalms’ big ideas. Every time you read the Bible there’s a VITAL VERSE you can find for yourself.
(3) SUB SKILL
“Sub” means ‘under’. Submarines go deeper. The SUB SKILL is a tip to help you understand the passage we’re reading, but you can use it any other time you’re reading the Bible. Try it out on another passage and see how you go!
(4) SOLO GO
We don’t want to do all the work for you. So the SOLO GO is an idea for you to do by yourself. It’s perfect for those who find reading or understanding passages hard or for people who love to stretch themselves.
(5) PRAYER SKILL
There are so many different ways to PRAY! Praying isn’t just a cashout experience (asking God for something and getting it). Prayer is talking to God. And talking means you have a relationship with someone.
Basically, these are communication skills to help you talk and hear from God after digging into the Word.
Now that you've got the basics, let's get into our first psalm of the Psalm Series... Psalm 1!
------
WHY PSALM 1?
We’re starting at Psalm 1 for a reason. It is the gateway psalm that helps us understand every other psalm to come.
The main symbol of the psalm is a healthy tree planted next to a river. The symbol is a promise to those who commit to thinking about God and His word each day and night. They grow in their ability to live the way God intends because they have a constant source of life.
Psalm 1 helps us understand that every psalm in the Book of Psalms is like a water source that if we fail to understand will lead to our eventual destruction. Each psalm is packed with wisdom and thinking deeply about God’s Word will lead us to absorb the wisdom to be able to grow good things in our lives.
PSALM 1 VITAL VERSE
Verse 2 - But they delight in the law of the Lord, meditating on it day and night
The vital verse of Psalm 1 shows what we need to do to be like the tree - "meditate on God's law day and night"
SUB SKILL: MEDITATE ON KEYWORDS
There’s a reason why people say you should think before you speak. Meditating helps new ideas pop into our minds about the thing we’re thinking about that.
Thinking about keywords in a passage gives us the chance to make connections with things – like our everyday lives and other bible passages.
SOLO GO: CHOOSE KEYWORDS AND MEDITATE
The Vital Verse has great keywords to start thinking about: delight, law, Lord, day, night, and meditate (yes, do it... meditate about meditating).
You could start by creating questions that help you to think more deeply about the word.
For example
Delight – What do I delight in? What does delight feel like?
Law – What do I know about law in the rest of the Bible? Do I like laws? Why are laws good?
PRAYING THE WORD: USE GOD’S WORDS TO SHAPE YOUR PRAYERS
There’s nothing wrong with using God’s words in our prayers. In fact, God’s words are the best words we can use! It’s like speaking God’s language. Using His words in our prayers is a great way to build a closer relationship with God. We show God that we trust Him and that we’re listening to Him. Take the big ideas from each verse and turn them into your own – then pray them out loud or write them down in your journal.
