The Beauty

The beauty…Eve…woman. Yes, fellas, let’s talk about what is arguably the greatest struggle we face: the woman. I say it’s our greatest struggle because Adam caved to the whim of the beauty in the garden. Abraham acquiesced to Sarah and took another wife to bear him a son against God’s wishes. David had a man murdered so he could be with Bathsheba, for heaven’s sake. Let’s be honest, not much has changed today. Men have sacrificed kingdoms for this prize!

True North Ministries has surveyed predominantly “church” men on several occasions, and overwhelmingly the greatest struggle for men today is porn and/or lust. Now let’s be clear, this doesn’t make the beauty wrong or bad, because she’s not. She is an image-bearer of God. We bear the warrior image of God; she bears the beauty of God. Women demonstrate His tenderness, His kindness, His grace, and mercy. The core reason men desperately long for Eve and her beauty is because what we are truly seeking is the beauty of God.

God is a God of passion and desire, make no mistake about it. He never intended us to view sex as something dirty or for us not to desire our wives. Just read the Song of Solomon and you’ll see. The key is to understand that the passion should be directed toward God and not to look to the beauty to meet our longing and desire. When we take our longing for the beauty of God and sexualize it, we have all of the issues that we see in our world today.

The majority of married men today are discontent with their sex life, yet the majority of married men expose themselves to pornography on a regular basis. What if you invited Jesus into your sex life? Your sexuality? Whether you’re married or single, this is crucial. If you’re married, invite Jesus into your sex life with your wife. He invented the concept of sex and gave it as a blessing. You are not going to shock or embarrass Him. If you’re single, invite Jesus into your sexuality to help you stay pure and abstinent.

The Beauty is indeed enchanting, but remember that beauty is of God and from God. Let the beauty draw you closer to God, never farther away.
