Day 5 - Being Available

Acts 9:10 Now there was a certain disciple at Damascus named Ananias; and to him the Lord said in a vision, “Ananias.” And he said, “Here I am, Lord.” 11 So the Lord said to him, “Arise and go to the street called Straight, and inquire at the house of Judas for one called Saul of Tarsus, for behold, he is praying. 12 And in a vision he has seen a man named Ananias coming in and putting his hand on him, so that he might receive his sight.” 13 Then Ananias answered, “Lord, I have heard from many about this man, how much harm he has done to Your saints in Jerusalem. 14 And here he has authority from the chief priests to bind all who call on Your name.” 15 But the Lord said to him, “Go, for he is a chosen vessel of Mine to bear My name before Gentiles, kings, and the children of Israel. 16 For I will show him how many things he must suffer for My name’s sake.” (NKJV)

God is looking for people who are available to do His will. The Lord doesn’t always need the masses to accomplish His perfect will. Sometimes He simply needs one believer who knows who He is and who they are in Him.

I can’t say this enough. If you want to grow in this gift, you must be intentional about pursuing it and making yourself available for the Holy Spirit to use you at any time.

God spoke to Ananias and seemingly inconvenienced him, and the first thing that came to the surface of his heart was fear. God replied, “Go,” and that is exactly what Ananias did. He went and God used him to perform an amazing miracle. This miracle transformed Saul of Tarsus into Paul the Apostle, and one of the most radical believers in the history of the planet was set free and launched into his world-changing ministry.

Living in the Spirit is not about praying for a couple of people at church or Bible study. That’s great and keep doing it. Living in the Spirit and being used by God in powerful ways is about surrendering to His will and learning to live with an open heart that is available to obey God no matter what the circumstances are.

Prayer: Lord, “Here I am, send me.” (Isaiah 6:8)
