Day 3: Find Your Triggers
We have to know what triggers us to view pornography. That way we can then cut it off. This will begin the healing process, and reverse the effects of pornography on our bodies.
For some people it is loneliness. For others it is brought about to due to anxiety and stress. Some might be drawn to it when they are bored or to escape problems in their lives. Whatever circumstances make you vulnerable, you need to discover what that is. Just like any other bad habit, viewing pornography is a symptom of another root problem.
Once we are in the moment of feeling those emotions it is much harder to resist. So what we should do is recognize when we’re in that circumstance and immediately start taking precautions to avoid pornography. Examples of taking precautions include: putting your phone or viewing source away, reading your Bible, being around people instead of isolating yourself, and praying about the emotions you are feeling.
Start thinking about the last time you viewed pornography. Think about why you did it and what circumstances were going on in your life at that time. Pray and ask God to reveal the reason to you. Is this a pattern that has been repeating?
Answer this question: what steps can you take to prevent watching it again the next time you face those same circumstances?
