Reflections From God's Story of Hope

DAY 2 OF 100

Creation of Angels

In what was probably His first act as a Creator, the God of the Bible created spirit beings that we call "angels."

Before time, or space, or light, or anything existed, Elohim (Almighty God), existing in perfect communion and harmony with Himself, determined that He would create. In His unlimited wisdom, He looked down through the corridors of time which had not yet begun and the future of the yet uncreated universe and crafted the blueprints not only of people and animals and worlds and stars, but of a plan that would glorify Him and bring great joy to all His created beings.

With His purpose established, his intentions set, the strategy complete, God began to create. And He started with highly intelligent, holy spirit-beings we call angels. He created thousands and thousands and millions and millions of them. He created them with differing levels of authority and power. Some He created for one purpose, some for another.

Now even though Heaven, the place where God dwells, is their home, these fantastic spirit-beings have access to earth where they can appear and disappear suddenly. When they appear, sometimes they appear with wings, other times without. Even though they can move quickly and are very powerful, angels, created by God, are subject to His control.

The first movement of God’s symphony of creation, which was about to bring into existence amazing wonders, began with angels, whom He created to serve and worship Him forever. But in His desire for service which would flow from love for Him, God added to the angels’ long list of attributes one more: choice.
