My Identity in Christनमूना
What determines my identity?
“I will give thanks to you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Your works are wonderful. My soul knows that very well” (Psalms 139:14).
Who are you as a human being? What determines your identity, your uniqueness? Your personal attributes play an important role in this: are you hot-tempered or patient, warm or cool, introvert or extravert, greedy or generous, optimistic or pessimistic, active or passive? Consider also your personal preferences: are you a sweet tooth or just the opposite, do you prefer neatness or do you flourish in some degree of disorder, do you prefer the city or are you a country person?
Besides all that, the group (or groups) to which you belong tells much about your individuality. It matters in which country you were born, what your parents were like or the community you were raised in or belong to. Are you part of a culture that values the individual more, or the importance of the community on the other hand? Your gender, the colour of your skin, your religious beliefs: all contribute greatly to your unique identity.
In this series of lessons we will consider the things and the persons that shape our personalities. The starting point is the awareness that God has created us. We are His workmanship. But we are fallen people at the same time: sin has marked our lives. How does that change when we are born again in Christ?

Our identity is defined by personal attributes such as character, gender and colour of skin, but also by the groups that we belong to. You may ask yourself: how do I view myself? How do others see me? The most important question however is: How does God see me? Who am I in Christ?
