Day Four – Living a Life of Kindness and Goodness
I don’t know about you, but I love encountering a kind person. This type of individual exudes friendliness, generosity, and consideration. I’m always reminded of what Philippians 4:5 tells us, “Let everyone see that you are considerate in all you do. Remember, the Lord is coming soon.” What a great reminder of how we are to live as we await the return of Jesus Christ.
Living a life of kindness can look like a lot of different things. It can look like giving someone an honest compliment. It can look like sharing a smile with someone. It can look like opening the door for someone. It can look like stopping to help someone in need. This is what living a life of kindness exemplifies.
Goodness falls right in line with it. As believers, when we are good to people, they will experience the goodness of the Lord through us. One day I asked Jesus, “Why is it so important for us to bear good fruit.” And this was His response to me through John 15:8, “When you produce much fruit, you are my true disciples. This brings great glory to my Father.”
When you and I produce much fruit, it brings God glory. He is magnified. Our Heavenly Father is praised. When we bear fruit, others can experience His amazing love, kindness, and goodness through our fruitful lives.
In other words, when you or I prepare and provide a meal for the homeless or someone who is sick and shut in, this is showing God’s kindness and goodness. When you say, “God bless you!” as you walk away or drive off after doing a good deed, oftentimes the recipient will look up and thank the Lord who blessed them through your fruitful act. Living a life of kindness and goodness is not about us being seen or recognized for the good deeds that we do. Instead, it’s about living a fruitful life as true disciples, while working in partnership with the Holy Spirit so that God may be glorified.
