Seen, Heard, and Understood. Finding Belonging in a World of Isolation

दिन 7 को 7

Finding belonging.

People need to belong in positive, stable, meaningful, and sustainable relationships to truly flourish. Belonging brings meaning to life, boosts self-esteem, provides a sense of identity, offers moral support, allows us to feel safe, and helps us make sense of the world around us.

While loneliness causes people to hide who they are and what they have to offer to the world, belonging encourages people to bring to light all God created them to be and all of the good things they can bring. You were created to belong.

Belonging is the feeling of being seen, heard, and understood. It leads to a sense of self-worth and value. Belonging is like a cycle; the more a person has a sense that they belong to somewhere, something, or someone, the more they feel they are valued for who they are. Their ‘self-talk’ is positive and constructive, so they are more willing to be seen, heard, and understood.

The result is that they feel a greater sense of belonging and are more likely to thrive and achieve their God-given potential.

In 1 Corinthians 12:12-27, the apostle Paul uses the analogy of a human body to describe what it means to belong in a group where everybody brings their best. The human body has many different parts which belong together. Each part can only perform well when it’s in its rightful place alongside the other parts. God designed our bodies as a model for understanding our lives together: every part depends on every other part. You, the unique gifts and skills you have, and the experiences and understanding only you can bring are vitally important.

You need others, and they need you.
