Daily Bible Reading, December 2022: God’s Renewing Word of Joyनमूना
December 17
Introduction
Hezekiah was the twelfth king of the southern kingdom of Judah. His time as king was notable for its religious reforms and steadfast resistance against the powerful Assyrian Empire. Today’s reading narrates a time when Hezekiah became ill and prayed for healing. The prophet Isaiah assures Hezekiah that the LORD has heard his prayer. The reading concludes with Hezekiah’s song of praise. [Note: Verses 21 and 22 have been moved from the end of the chapter and included between verses 6 and 7.]
Scripture Reading
Isaiah 38:1-20 [21-22]
Today’s Key Verse: Isaiah 38:20a
[Hezekiah sang:] LORD, you have healed me. We will play harps and sing your praise.
Reflect
What was Hezekiah’s prayer (verse 2)? What assurance did the prophet Isaiah give him (verses 4-6)? Hezekiah’s name means “The LORD is my strength.” How is this evidenced in today’s reading? What does his song of praise convey (verses 10-20)?
Pray
Lord God, I will live for you alone. I trust in your promises and will sing your praise as long as I live. In your holy name, I pray. Amen.
Tomorrow’s Reading
Isaiah 7:1-25: The prophet Isaiah delivers a message to King Ahaz of Judah.
