Psalms Streak: A Daily Devotional in the Psalms

DAY 28 OF 161

Wait for the Lord

On a scale of 1-10, how patient are you? On a road trip, are you the one who asks “are we there yet?” every 5 minutes? Sometimes it can be hard to wait for things. When you’re a child, counting down the days to your birthday or Christmas can feel like an eternity! Maybe you’ve been praying about a certain situation for a while now and longing to see a change. Perhaps you’ve been asking the Lord for direction, and you haven’t received an answer yet. This Psalm ends with David giving instruction to wait for the Lord, not once, but twice.

“Wait for the Lord; be strong and take heart and wait for the Lord.” (v. 14)

It is so important that perhaps David thought he needed to repeat it just to make sure the reader doesn’t forget. While you’re waiting, make the most of the time and wait actively. This could mean praying regularly, seeking God daily, and putting your trust in Him. Watch how your heart strengthens and trust builds over time. As you wait, make it a priority to seek His face (v. 8). Wait for the Lord and continue waiting. Don’t give up! Don’t become impatient, but be strong and take heart.

GO DEEP: Are you praying or waiting for something specific at the moment? Perhaps you were praying for something in the past but it didn't seem like anything was happening and you gave up. Ask the Lord to strengthen you today, take heart, and wait for His answer.

BE BOLD: Who needs to hear this? Who could you share it with?
