All right. Now that you’ve finished Judges, you’ll start reading 1 Samuel. There are some really interesting things about this book that I wanted to explain to you:

-This book opens at the end of the period of Israel’s Judges. Samuel is the last judge of Israel and the first in a long line of prophets.

-1st & 2nd Samuel were originally one book, but when translated to Greek, they had to be split into two separate narratives because the Greek text wouldn’t fit on one scroll.

-This book introduces Saul as God’s anointed, but when he violates God’s law before a battle, Samuel revokes his future over Israel and anoints a different king instead (David).

-This book introduces the concept of a messiah-king, fulfilled prophetically and eternally by Jesus.
