Everything is Subject to God!
By Rev. Joel Gaertner, Vice President of Ministry

You don’t have to look very far to see the efforts and threats of anarchists who want to overthrow government and let people do whatever they want with no consequences.  If you are bothered by what you see and hear in our country, the verse above should give you comfort and peace.

At a time God determines, he will “be all in all.” While it may seem that people get away with evil plans or that corrupt government officials run roughshod over God, Paul’s inspired words reassure us that these troubling events will all eventually come to a screeching halt and God will reign supreme.

You might wonder why God seemingly lets evil go unchecked or lets people run wild in their sinfulness.  While we don’t know the mind of God, Jesus gives us this understanding in John 16:33: “I have told you these things so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble, but take heart, I have overcome the world.”

Did you notice the assurance which Jesus wants us to have as we see trouble in the world?

  1. “I have overcome the world.” This is another way of stating that God is in control and will end all the seeming trouble at a time he determines is best.
  2. “. . . in me you may have peace.” Jesus says this because he knows things in this world can upset us and rob us of the peace we desire. Not only does Jesus tell us that we can have the peace we desire, he also tells us where we can find it – in him alone!

You likely realize that the challenge is to keep things in this perspective.

Understand that no matter how bad it gets, God is in control. “In all things God works for the good of those who love him” (Romans 8:28).

Prayer: Heavenly Father, as I go through this life, it is so easy for me to take my eyes off you and focus on the troubles in this world.  Remind and reassure me that no matter what I see or hear, you are in control and will end all these troubles and bring everything under your control in the way and at the time you know is best.  Give me your peace, which is far greater than my feeble human understanding, and let it calm my heart and help me rest secure in you.  Amen.
