Don't Buy the Lieनमूना
Trade the inheritance for a stew
The story that we read in Genesis tells us that while Jacob was preparing a stew, Esau arrived from the desert exhausted, tired and hungry. Esau said to Jacob: "I'm starved! Give me some of that red stew!". His expression was clearly a total exaggeration. He wasn't going to "starve". In reality, he was tired after a tough day at work and he was hungry. However, he exaggerated his immediate need and ended up selling his rights as the firstborn son in a moment of weakness. By being tired, exhausted, hungry and maybe isolated, he sold his rights as the firstborn son.
In the Israeli society, the firstborn son was very special and had certain privileges, it was as if he was the favorite of the house, or his father's favorite.
The firstborn son was considered special because:
- He would succeed his father as the head of the family.
- He would receive a doble portion of the inheritance.
- He would be the spiritual head of the family.
In the midst of his weakness, Esau sold all his rights as the firstborn son for a bowl of stew! He bought the enemy's lie. He let his feelings lead him to make a decision that literally changed the course of his life forever and was left out of the inheritance that God had for him.
Let us not be victims of the lies that we've bought in our minds and hearts.
Prayer: Lord, I give you thanks for the inheritance that I have in you. I ask that you help me learn from Esau's mistake, help me to not buy the lie and exchange what's most important for crumbs. Help me to not be a victim of the lie, but to look beyond my situation and trust in You. Amen.
