Moorings – Anchor for the Soulनमूना
Big Deal about Small Things
God cares deeply about the small things in our lives. In fact, He makes a BIG DEAL out of them, as reflected in the story of the widow’s offering in the temple in Luke 21:1-4:
As Jesus looked up, he saw the rich putting their gifts into the temple treasury. He also saw a poor widow put in two very small copper coins. “I tell you the truth,” he said, “this poor widow has put in more than all the others. All these people gave their gifts out of their wealth; but she out of her poverty put in all she had to live on.”
Jesus noticed the widow’s offering and commended her for giving her all to the Lord. She gave not according to her means, but according to her faith. We honor God when we give by faith.
We are often called to give of ourselves, our time, our financial resources and more. Sometimes the need around us is so great that we wonder if our “two copper coins” are even of help. Then there are times when we are called to serve and minister outside of our comfort zone and, just like the widow, we feel totally inadequate.
When we view our two copper coins as insignificant, as not good enough in quality and quantity, we tend to withhold the little that we have, believing that our contribution will not make any difference. In so doing, we miss out on the opportunity to see how God can multiply our two copper coins and use them for His glory.
Years ago, my preschooler daughter made a Mother’s Day card for my wife, Sharon. There was a spelling mistake in the card that was spotted by Sharon. But then, Sharon also saw her face glowing with love and excitement, and she immediately sensed the Lord telling her, “Love her with all her imperfections.” At that very moment, Sharon also heard the Lord saying, “And this is how I love you too – with all your imperfections.”
Sometimes all that we can bring to the Lord may be just two insignificant copper coins, but the King of the Universe who lacks nothing looks at the heart behind our paltry and imperfect gifts. He receives them nonetheless, multiplies and uses them for His glory. He lets us experience the joy of sharing in the work of His Kingdom. What a privilege!
Is God calling you to offer your two copper coins to Him? Remember, He makes a BIG DEAL out of the little things we give in faith.
Mooring:
• What are the two copper coins God is calling you to offer Him?

“Mooring” a nautical term, refers to an anchor to which a ship is secured to prevent it from being carried away by the waves. Mooring serves as a primer for our soul’s contemplation. As you ponder over these reflections, may God reveal His eternal truths and perspective to you so that Christ remains as the anchor in your life.
