I believe it is not coincidental that I found myself meditating on Genesis 3:15 during Lent. Some Bible scholars believe that Genesis 3:15 alludes to God's redemption plan symbolizing the victory of humanity over satan through the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ (Romans 16:20; Gal 3:16-22).
The story of redemption began with Eve. When God cursed satan, He declared Eve's ultimate victory over satan through the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ, the seed of the woman. This dealt a blow to the enemy's plan and left him tormented.
Consider this: the enemy's desire was to become like God, but it led to his damnation (Isaiah 14:12-14). Then God created man (Adam and Eve) in his own likeness (Genesis 1:26-27). The enemy was jealous and decided to destroy man through Eve. Despite the enemy's success in deceiving Eve, God avenged Eve by declaring her victory over the enemy. I cannot imagine the enemy's confusion and anger.
Until we fully understand that the enemy hates humanity and he is jealous of God's love for us and our identity in Christ, we will keep blaming God for every evil that befalls us.
God’s love for you is undeniable. The death and resurrection of Jesus Christ is the greatest proof of God’s love (Romans 5:8; John 3:16). God declared Adam and Eve's redemption and also our redemption into existence without hesitation, because punishment is not the Father’s goal. Repentance or restoration is always the goal of our heavenly Father (2 Peter 3:9). Until we begin to understand the depth of God's love for us, shame and fear will prevent us from manifesting our identity as children of the Most High God (Psalm 82:6).
Dear woman, you have been redeemed.
Like Paul, I pray that “you may have power, together with all the Lord’s holy people, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ, and to know this love that surpasses knowledge—that you may be filled to the measure of all the fullness of God.” Ephesians 3:18 (NIV)
