RESOLUTION #5: A satisfied heart

“For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.” (Mathew 6:21)

Every year it is the same thing. Resolutions always reveal what we believe will bring us satisfaction: to lose weight, to travel, to gather money, to buy a house, to have children, etc.

At first there is nothing wrong with that because goals are important to challenge and grow. However, when I started thinking about my list some time ago, I realized that, once again, “losing weight” was at the top, not only because it was a good, necessary, and healthy goal, but because conquering a “six pack abs” is an idol undercover as resolution in my heart.

And you, have you ever stopped to think about your resolutions/desires? Have you considered that they can "undercover" an idol/ a treasure of the heart? Or even, several?

What I have decided for the rest of my life is to be more grateful, whatever the situation. I want to be satisfied, trust that what I live, have, and do is part of God's plan for me—the best plan. I want to remember every day: “My grace is sufficient for you,” (2 Corinthians 12:9).

So, are you willing to reflect carefully on your desires? It is essential to examine them in order to detect whether they are legitimate, or if they are taking your attention away from what God said has true value.

Remember: having goals—how to lose weight—is not wrong. Sometimes they are necessary—in this case, for example, to be in good health. The problem is when they take the place that should be God's. John Piper reminds us in his famous phrase: "God is most glorified in us, when we are most satisfied in Him,"

Let us go beyond gratitude: let us be satisfied in God, glorifying His Name.

Prayer: God, forgive me for exchanging the Lord for passing desires. Help me to have balanced goals while I live satisfied in You. In Jesus’ name, Amen."
