Wondered by the Word — The Bible in a Year

DAY 35 OF 365

He Doesn’t Miss a Thing

Key Verse: Exodus 2:23-24; Exodus 4:31

When we reach the book of Exodus, we find the Israelites living under great oppression from the Egyptians. Exodus 2:23 tells us that amid their suffering, they “groaned because of their slavery and cried out for help.” What I find unique is that the Bible doesn’t even say they cried out to God. They just cried. (I don’t know about you but I can relate—I’m a crier!) But at the sound of their sorrow, God was listening.

“Their cry for rescue from slavery came up to God. And God heard their groaning, and God remembered his covenant with Abraham, with Isaac, and with Jacob. God saw the people of Israel—and God knew.” Exodus 2:23-24

Have you ever felt unseen? Maybe you’re walking through a painful circumstance that you can’t even share with your closest friends. Perhaps you’re a mom buried under the responsibility of caring for your kids and your home. Maybe your boss never recognizes how hard you’re working. You find yourself crying out for help, for someone to notice, and you feel like your cries are going nowhere.

Trust me, friend—your Heavenly Father doesn’t miss a thing.

God heard…God remembered…God saw…God knew.

I believe this is a truth God wanted the Israelites (and us) to grasp firmly because He continued to remind them that they were seen:

“Then the LORD said, ‘I have surely seen the affliction of my people who are in Egypt and have heard their cry because of their taskmasters. I know their sufferings, and I have come down to deliver them…’” Exodus 3:7-8a

“I have observed you and what has been done to you in Egypt, and I promise that I will bring you up out of the affliction of Egypt…” Exodus 3:16-17a

God wanted to eliminate every doubt in their minds that He was turning a blind eye to their suffering. And their response to Him was beautiful:

“…and when they heard that the LORD had visited the people of Israel and that he had seen their affliction, they bowed their heads and worshiped.” Exodus 4:31

May we rest in confidence knowing we are seen by the One who matters most. May we bow low in worship, acknowledging that He is so much bigger, higher, wiser, and stronger than we are. May we trust that He hears, remembers, sees, and knows.
