Searching for Wisdom

Accept the Invitation

Have you ever made a decision you wish you could take back and do-over? I know I have. Every day we are faced with choices that deserve thought, advice, wisdom, and understanding. But who has time for that? Oftentimes we live life at such a fast pace that we barely give time to think, much less act in wisdom.

Wisdom invites the reader to live wisely. Folly leads us to destruction. The writer encourages us that when wisdom is given to the wise, they will be wiser still; and when we teach a righteous person, they will increase in learning. This all is founded in reverence for the Lord, which is where wisdom begins.

There is tension between wisdom and folly. When we get careless, folly wins, and we pay the price in broken relationships, broken dreams, and missed opportunities. A decision made in a moment can take years to overcome.

It’s a great blessing that the Lord invites us to leave the way of folly and live wisely. We are afforded the opportunity to live with insight and understanding. The key is living with reverence for the Lord. “What would the Lord want me to do?” should always be the first question we ask when faced with choices and decisions.

Living wisely may take time to process, but it is an act of worship - trusting in the Holy One; God the Father, God the Son, God the Holy Spirit. The wise person will accept the invitation to live in wisdom.

Reflective Questions:

1.  Have you asked the Lord for wisdom to help with the decision you are making right now?

2.  Have you sought wise counsel from others regarding your decision?

3.  Have you spent time in prayer regarding your decision?

Memory Verse:

Give instruction to a wise man, and he will be still wiser; teach a just man, and he will increase in learning. Proverbs 9:9

Prayer:

Dear God, thank you for the people You have placed in my life to provide wise counsel. Help me to always be willing to listen before acting.
