Surrender

Day 4

God’s desire for you is to have a 100 percent dependence upon Him to help you in your situation. What makes me so confident in saying this? I have seen testimony after testimony of people finally hitting bottom, and then they desperately cry out to God, and He steps in. When people get to this point and finally let God in, He can move on their behalf and make a way when they felt like there was no way. We have to remember God’s ways are not our ways, and His thoughts are higher than our thoughts.

Maybe at this point, you are asking yourself, then what shall I do? Take a deep breath and don’t allow feelings of anxiousness to overtake you.

I believe God wants you to get to a place of complete surrender in your situation, but letting go feels like a back-and-forth process. Maybe right now you are in a bad spot financially, or in an unhealthy relationship that you know is not good for you. Maybe you are deeply entangled in your addictions, or wounds from your past. Whatever your situation may be, I want you to know there is a way out. God wants you to live in freedom!

Many of us have suffered years of abuse and trauma, and if we don’t deal with the root of the issue it will always come back. This is why most people keep running back to their addiction or self-destructive patterns—to comfort them.

We don’t want to feel the pain or the fear. I promise you if you follow the suggestions I am making in these devotionals, and commit your life and will to God, you will start to see some relief from the things that are burdening your life. You need to make your healing journey a priority. Just like you make time to eat or sleep, schedule time to get the help you need.

If you are done trying to do things in your strength, I suggest you ask God to help you surrender. Let Him take control of your life and put back together all the shattered pieces.

To get free, we need to be honest with God, a safe friend, and ourselves for accountability.

Reflection

It is important to give God full access to your heart. We have to be healed in our hearts so we can walk in freedom. If you are willing to do the hard work, it will change the course of your life for the better.

Do you have any unforgiveness, shame, or dark secrets that you’re carrying around in your heart toward yourself or someone else? Pray about it and journal what God is revealing to you.
