God In The Times Of Kingsनमूना
God Is Bigger than Your Problem
Few stories in the Bible have captured our imagination like the story of David and Goliath. Goliath was a giant of a man, over nine feet tall, who taunted the Israelite soldiers and arrogantly challenged Israel’s God. David? He was a mere teenager, a shepherd, but full of faith, courage, and heart for his God.
When David arrived at the front lines and heard this man defy the armies of the living God, he could not stand it. In contrast to the Israelite soldiers who were terrified by Goliath, David was not intimidated and was unimpressed. Who was Goliath, a mere man, compared to God? David was impressed with the size of God, not the size of Goliath.
So David, the teenager, volunteers to fight Goliath.
Two things characterized his attitude: his burning zeal for the glory of God and his childlike trust in the faithfulness of God.
Firstly, there is his burning zeal for God’s glory:
1 Samuel 17:36, "Your servant has struck down both lions and bears, and this uncircumcised Philistine shall be like one of them, for he has defied the armies of the living God."
1 Samuel 17:46-47, "This day the Lord will deliver you into my hand, and I will strike you down and cut off your head. And I will give the dead bodies of the host of the Philistines this day to the birds of the air and to the wild beasts of the earth, that all the earth may know that there is a God in Israel. And that all this assembly may know that the Lord saves not with sword and spear. For the battle is the Lord’s, and he will give you into our hand."
When a man is more concerned about God’s reputation than his own reputation, watch out. This is a dangerous man. A man who will impact the kingdom of God.
Secondly, his childlike trust in the faithfulness of God:
1 Samuel 17:37, "The Lord who delivered me from the paw of the lion and from the paw of the bear will deliver me from the hand of this Philistine."
Then David said to the Philistine:
1 Samuel 17:45-47, "You come to me with a sword and with a spear and with a javelin, but I come to you in the name of the Lord of hosts, the God of the armies of Israel, whom you have defied. This day the Lord will deliver you into my hand, and I will strike you down and cut off your head. And that all this assembly may know that the Lord saves not with sword and spear. For the battle is the Lord’s, and he will give you into our hand."
God loves it when His people dare to trust Him, no matter if the problem seems impossible. Which is bigger? Your problem or your God? What is God calling you to trust Him for today? Put your trust in God to deliver you, for the living God dwarfs the giants in your life.
