Jesus Is the Answer
Sarah Roberts
Ready:
“As Jesus was walking along, he saw a man, who had been blind from birth. ‘Teacher,’ his disciples asked. ‘why was this man born blind? Was it because of this own sins or his parents sins?’
Jesus replied, ‘It was not because of his sins or his parents sins. This happened so the power of God could be seen in him. We must quickly carry out the tasks assigned us by the one who sent us…’ - John 9:1-4
Set:
2020 was one of the hardest, confusing, craziest years of most of life. From the canceling of our sports seasons because of the Coronavirus to the tragic loss of Kobe Bryant and his daughter, we find ourselves asking God hard questions like What is going on? God, are You there?
Although we may not have answers ourselves, we do have Truth. We learn the following three truths from the John 9 passage:
1. Bad things don’t always happen because we have done bad things (verse 3).
Bad things happen because we live in a broken world. In this world, there is sin, pain, and disappointments, but as Christians, we don’t live for this world, but in preparation for the next, eternal life with Jesus.
2. God brings something good out of something bad (verse 3b).
Even though we live in a broken world, God will use every disappointment and every pain to show us His power, His goodness, and His faithfulness. There are no wasted tears. There are no wasted seasons even the ones that have been cut short.
3. We each have God-given assignments to carry out now (verse 4).
Sometimes we can lose sight of God’s tasks for us because we are so focused on everyone else’s tasks and problems. I want to challenge you to pray and ask God your assignment today because none of us are guaranteed tomorrow.
Go:
1. When asking God hard questions, what can you learn from these truths?
2. What has a “no-season” season taught you about your relationship with God?
Workout:
- John 16:33
- Romans 8:28
Overtime:
“Lord, even though I have questions help me to know with my entire heart that You are the answer.”
