Ruth: God at Work in Our Lives

DAY 2 OF 8

Extraordinary Faith

On the one hand, we see Elimelech and Naomi leave Israel and seek refuge in Moab, on the other hand, we see Ruth express extraordinary faith in the God of Israel. All that Ruth experienced and witnessed about Yahweh was through imperfect examples and broken lives. Ruth saw Naomi lose everything, her husband, her sons and now is heading back with total failure. Ruth was also in a comfortable setting with family and friends close by. There is nothing for her in Israel. Naomi even gives her the chance for Ruth to return to her family.

Oprah made the decision to go back to her parents. She was practical, rational and realistic. Ruth, on the other hand, makes a decision to go with Naomi to Israel, to a foreign land, a place where she will be hated and ostracized, where she has no family or friends and where she has to make a fresh start. But she shows incredible faith in Yahweh.

Ruth had seen enough. She was certain that Yahweh is the true God and she puts her entire life into God’s hands. What kind of faith is this? This is how saving faith looks like.

Do you trust Jesus with such radical faith? Do you need to be convinced before you trust and obey? Or is our Savior’s love on the cross more than enough to move your heart to humble obedience and extraordinary faith?
