DAY 49 OF 116

EZEKIEL 23:
In yesterday’s reading in Ezekiel, we heard the Lord promise that he would refine Israel as purifying silver in a crucible. And then we heard the famous and poignant words, which are translated very clearly in the NLT:

Ez. 23:30 NLT “I looked for someone who might rebuild the wall of righteousness that guards the land. I searched for someone to stand in the gap in the wall so I wouldn’t have to destroy the land, but I found no one.

ISAIAH 7:
Yesterday we heard the story of Isaiah’s vision of the glory of the Lord in the temple. Isaiah’s lips were purified with a coal from the altar. Then after hearing the Lord’s call, he said the famous words, “Here I am. Send me!” And the Lord revealed that the messages He would give to Isaiah to convey to the people of Judah would not be received.

Rereading HEBREWS 3:
Yesterday in Hebrews 3, we heard an extended quote from Psalm 95 that forms the basis for this section. It is because I want that quote firmly in our minds that I scheduled this chapter to be read twice. The failure of the Israelites was their refusal to believe what the Lord told them. Believing is a volitional act.

Let’s pray.
Lord Jesus, may we heed all the warnings that your Word gives us! May we NOT be stubborn and put you to the test! (Metaphorically speaking)  You have given us a land and told us to enter. May we NOT simply look at the land from the border and refuse to go in. May we enter and find spiritual rest. And having been purified by our High Priest, may we be purified in every part, including our lips— the words that we speak. Seeing You, Jesus, seated at the right hand of the Father in glory, may we hear the Father’s voice saying, “Whom shall I send? Who will be my messenger?” So now we give ourselves to You saying, “Here I am. I will go. Send me!” Thank You, Lord that You do not give us such a difficult message as you gave to Isaiah. Instead You say, “Go, then, to all peoples everywhere and make them my disciples: Baptize them in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, and teach them to obey everything I have commanded you. And I will be with you always, to the end of the age.”
