DAY 34 OF 116

2CHRONICLES 36:
As we heard yesterday in 2nd Chronicles, Josiah’s Passover celebration showed his great organizational talent, and wonderful ability to get everyone to work together. It is the capstone of the revival that he led. Unfortunately, he was stubborn about going to war with Pharaoh Neco, which cost him both his own life and his son’s life.

ECCLESIASTES 12:
Yesterday’s short chapter in Ecclesiastes recorded proverbial advice to young and old, and that theme continues in today’s reading.

I have often used this chapter to show people why it is good for every believer to have both a literal and a meaning-based translation of the Bible. I’m thankful that you can see both kinds in the YouVersion app. A sign of a good meaning-based translation (like NLT and GNT) is that, even without reading the topic sentence in verse one, you can still quickly pick up the topic if you randomly start reading somewhere in the middle between verses 2 through 7.

MATTHEW 23a:
In yesterday’s reading in Matthew, Jesus roundly defeated the Sadducees, telling them that they did not know the Scriptures or the power of God. He answered the question about the most important Law, and he asked the question no one at that time could answer.

Let’s pray.
Dear heavenly Father and our Lord Christ Jesus, may we prove our love for You by loving our neighbors. If we can’t manage to love our fellow man— whom we can see, it is unlikely that we can love You whom we can’t see. The Pharisees would have prided themselves for their love of the Father, but they certainly didn’t love You, Jesus, or others. May we not be like them. Help us to remember that our fellow brothers and sisters in Christ will live together with us forever, along with Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. And Lord, we don’t want to be like the Sadducees either. Help us to really know the Scriptures and to really know God’s power. Some people these days are only interested in trying to be channels God’s supernatural signs, but they seem not to be so interested in really knowing the God of the Scriptures. While others study the Bible daily and memorize their favorite verses, but somehow fail to meet You, dear heavenly Father, the all-powerful living God. Dear Lord, we don’t want empty religion. May we live today in the knowledge that You— in all your power— are right with us. May this day be a conversation with You.
