DAY 26 OF 116

2CHRONICLES 28:
In 2nd Chronicles yesterday we heard of the reign of Uzziah (who suffered a terrible punishment for his pride), and the reign of his son, Jotham. Both were basically good kings.

ECCLESIASTES 4:
Yesterday we heard the famous chapter of Ecclesiastes which starts with

Ecc. 3:1 (like NLT) For everything (turn, turn, turn) there is a season, (turn, turn, turn) a time for every activity under heaven.

The GNT is very correct in bringing out some implicit information that would have been understood by Solomon’s audience, but which modern readers could easily miss, namely that God sets the seasons:

Ecc. 3:1 GNT Everything that happens in this world happens at the time God chooses.
2 He sets the time for birth and the time for death,
the time for planting and the time for pulling up,

MATTHEW 18a:
Yesterday in Matthew 17 we heard the story of the mount of transfiguration, the shorter story of the healing of the demon possessed boy right afterward, and we ended with Peter catching a fish to pay the temple tax for himself and Jesus.

Let’s pray.
Lord Jesus, please pick us to go up the mountain with You! May we see your glory as the Son of Man. May we catch the vision there— not of your ‘departure’, but of your return. Even in the midst of an unbelieving generation, may our mountaintop vision help us to fully believe in You and long for your return. Our belief in You should be so much bigger than a mustard seed, because of so much that we read in our Bibles was as yet unknown to the disciples. We believe, help our unbelief. Help us to have the same kind of simple trust that Peter did when he threw the baited hook into the water. We thank You that through our union with You, we are now citizens of the kingdom. We are not conquered foreigners. In fact, joined with You, we are king’s kids.
