This is a common story told to children because of the vivid picture of walls falling down. We can get caught up in how amazing it is and forget that God is teaching his people something about himself. God is reassuring his people of his care and protection for them by defeating an enemy in a way that could point only to God’s power. Because they were such great people who deserved God’s favor? No, remember they hadn’t even bothered to go through a simple ceremony to confirm their devotion to God.

God is capable of demonstrating his power in our lives too. There are obstacles we all face that require trust in God to overcome.
