Pay It Forward – True Healing Can Be Found in Helping Others
I think one of the great things we can do in life is think about others. How much greater are we when we put others before our circumstances—regardless of what those circumstances are? It's been said that no matter how bad things are for you personally, there’s always an opportunity to help someone else get ahead publically.
It’s also been said that the best way up is to first get down. We must think in terms of being selfless rather than selfish. This mindset was what God had purposed before we were even born. “Long ago He planned that we should spend these lives in helping others” (Ephesians 2:10). You could say then, if we’re not being others minded, we’re missing out on what God had planned from the very beginning.
George Barna, after interviewing thousands of volunteers, writes, “When someone finds their niche (specifically serving others), they develop a sense of urgency for getting on target, they burn with zeal, and they cannot imagine being devoted to anything else. They believe that this is the opportunity that they have to know God, serve God, and bless God.” These are the people who we would call blessed.
Where can you lend a hand rather than looking for one? How can you make someone else’s life better, even if they never say thank you? When you set aside yourself, despite how adverse your life might seem, it will change the very nature of your landscape.
