Job 37

Elihu Proclaims God’s Majesty
1“At this also my heart trembles
and leaps out of its place.
2Keep listening to the thunder of his voice
and the rumbling that comes from his mouth.
3Under the whole heaven he lets it go,
and his #ch. 36:30, 32 lightning to the #ch. 38:13; [Isa. 11:12; Ezek. 7:2]corners of the earth.
4After it #ch. 40:9; Ps. 68:33; See Ps. 29:3-9 his voice roars;
#
Ps. 18:13
he thunders with his majestic voice,
and he does not restrain the lightnings#37:4 Hebrew them when his voice is heard.
5God thunders wondrously with his voice;
he does #See ch. 5:9 great things that we cannot #ch. 36:26comprehend.
6For to #Ps. 147:16, 17the snow he says, ‘Fall on the earth,’
likewise to the downpour, his mighty downpour.
7He #Dan. 12:9; [ch. 14:17] seals up the hand of every man,
that all men whom he made may #Ps. 109:27know it.
8Then the beasts go into their #ch. 38:40 lairs,
and remain in their #Ps. 104:22dens.
9From #ch. 9:9 its chamber #Isa. 21:1; [ch. 1:19] comes the whirlwind,
and #Ps. 147:17cold from the scattering winds.
10By the breath of God #ch. 38:29, 30; Ps. 147:17 ice is given,
and #[ch. 36:16]the broad waters are frozen fast.
11He loads the thick cloud with moisture;
the clouds scatter his lightning.
12They #Gen. 3:24 turn around and around by his #Ps. 148:8 guidance,
#
Ps. 148:8 to accomplish all that he commands them
on the face of #[Prov. 8:31]the habitable world.
13Whether for #Ex. 9:18, 23; 1 Sam. 12:18, 19; Ezra 10:9; [ch. 36:31; 38:22, 23] correction or for his #ch. 38:26, 27 land
or for #1 Kgs. 18:45love, he causes it to happen.
14“Hear this, O Job;
stop and #[Ps. 111:2]consider the wondrous works of God.
15Do you know how God lays his command upon them
and causes the lightning of his cloud to shine?
16Do you know the balancings#37:16 Or hoverings of the clouds,
the wondrous works of him who is #ch. 36:4; [1 Sam. 2:3]perfect in knowledge,
17you whose garments are hot
when the earth is still because of the south wind?
18Can you, like him, #Isa. 42:5; 44:24; [Gen. 1:6] spread out the skies,
hard as a cast metal #[Ex. 38:8]mirror?
19Teach us what we shall say to him;
we cannot draw up our case because of #Isa. 60:2; [Eph. 4:18]darkness.
20Shall it be told him that I would speak?
Did a man ever wish that he would be swallowed up?
21“And now no one looks on the light
when it is bright in the skies,
when the wind has passed and cleared them.
22Out of the north comes golden splendor;
God is clothed with #[Ps. 104:1]awesome majesty.
23The Almighty—we #1 Tim. 6:16 cannot find him;
he is #ch. 36:5 great in power;
#
Ps. 99:4 justice and abundant righteousness he will not #Lam. 3:33violate.
24Therefore men #Ps. 130:4; [Matt. 10:28] fear him;
he does not regard any who are #[Isa. 5:21; Matt. 11:25; 1 Cor. 1:26]wise in their own conceit.”#37:24 Hebrew in heart
