Birth announcements – God’s version

Matthew addresses the birth of Jesus – and it is about the birth of the King, the King of the Jews.

Matthew:

Compares Jesus with Herod the earthly king – no comparison.

Describes the people coming to honor Jesus – wise men from the nations bring gifts.

Shows how heaven predicts Jesus’ birth – the stars declare it.

Shows God protecting Jesus – Herod cannot kill Him.

Shows Jesus living in a simple, unassuming family.

Stop.  Think about how God announces the birth of His Son, Jesus.

Now, take a moment and realize that we are adopted children of God.  Do not forget this – even when we find ourselves in simple circumstances.  A day is coming when God will declare it, and He will do a great job announcing His children.

Time to Pray

Father, You made the announcement of Jesus’ birth in a  simple and yet special way.  The stars proclaimed it, wise men came from other nations to bless Jesus, Your people were told it, kings were told of it, and today we hear it.  I want to take time today and worship You for this special event – You sent Jesus.  I know You placed Jesus in a simple home, and that encourages me.  When we think that You should treat us differently, it reminds me that You know what You are doing with my life.  Most of us have simple lives – but we are Your adopted children and one day…. Yes, one day You will bring us out and the world will see how You honour Your children.  I look forward to that day.  In Jesus’ name, Amen.
