Stop Making Excuses

When teams have bad seasons in the NFL, the head coach gets fired. Coaches don’t throw interceptions. They don’t fumble the ball. They don’t jump offsides or miss tackles. But they get fired. They reason coaches get fired even though they didn’t make all the mistakes is because they are responsible for the team. They can make all the excuses they want. They can point the finger and pass on the blame, but they are still responsible.

When Adam and Eve sinned, God came looking for Adam and said, “Where are you?” He didn’t ask, “Adam and Eve, where are ya’ll?” That’s because God holds men accountable. If you want to rule, and if you want to be great, then you must understand you are responsible for everything under your sphere of influence. This means you can’t point the finger. You can’t pass the blame. You can’t keep making excuses.

Let me tell you about a great man in the Bible. You probably have never heard of him before because there are only two verses in Scripture about him. His name is Shamgar, and he saved the entire nation of Israel from the Philistines. He wasn’t a military man or a politician. More than likely, he was just an ordinary farmer. So how did save Israel? He didn’t wait for something to happen. He didn’t wait for the others to join the fight. He didn’t wait until he had better weapons. He didn’t make any excuses. Instead, he saw a need and met it with the resources that he had.

Right now, some of you men may be discouraged. You might have already messed up. Maybe you made mistakes with your wife, your children, your career or with your finances. It’s not over. Don’t give up. Stop making excuses. Make the most of where you are right now, and allow God to take care of the rest.
