What Would Jesus Undo? Spiritual Pride
If I’m being honest, I had a hard time writing today’s devotional. Spiritual pride is a very real weakness, sin, I struggle with on an almost daily basis. Need proof this isn’t false humility? When I told my wife I was writing this devotional, she laughed out loud. Hard.
So let’s get straight into the Bible. In Genesis, God decided to create man out of dust. What happened next is the most important part of the story. He breathed life into Adam. Without it, Adam would’ve only been a lifeless bag of dirt. It’s no different with you and me.
Spiritual pride is like the opposite of camouflage. We don’t always see it in ourselves, but it’s often obvious to others (hence my wife’s laughter). What does it look like to others? Spiritual pride has a hard time admitting it’s wrong. It rarely asks for forgiveness. It’s often critical, rarely speaks praise, avoids vulnerability with others, doesn’t listen to correction, foolishly tries to defeat sinful habits without help, and fails to truly put God first.
Did I hit a nerve? That honestly wasn’t my intention. I was merely describing myself. Like the lifeless form of Adam, I’m a real dirtbag some days. Here’s the great thing about Jesus, though. Slowly, day-by-day, by His power, and with the help of other believers, I’m becoming less self-sufficient and more reliant upon God’s Spirit in me. He’s making me into the man He created me to be—totally dependent upon His power and grace. He’ll do the same for you, too.

Pray: Jesus, because of You, I’m done with spiritual pride.
