New Name

When we see our hearts freed to Christ, He brings us into our new selves with a new name He gives us. The name will be a picture of who He intended us to be when He made us. Sometimes our new name is given quickly. Other times it takes a while. We will receive our new name when we are fully ready to receive it and believe that our new name is the new person we are in Christ.

When I first heard about receiving a new name, I was so excited. It was my first time at a life-changing men’s event called Basecamp, hosted by True North Ministries. So, the receiving of my new name was something that I was anxiously awaiting! It never came during that weekend. I spent the next 2-3 months drawing closer to God and awaiting my new name. Still nothing. I went to my second Basecamp 6 months later. New name??? No. Nothing. I questioned myself. I asked God if I was missing something. Why wasn’t I receiving a new name?

God gave me my new name 1 year and 3 months after my first Basecamp at a different event in which a new name was not even a topic. He waited because I wasn’t ready to believe my new name. I still believed something else about myself. There was a hidden memory that he had to allow to surface. He had to heal me of something so deep that I didn’t even know it existed. Yet, He knew. He knows you and me to our deepest depths. He will not give us our new name until we can fully embrace it.

My new name, which I will share in tomorrow’s devotional, is the complete opposite of what I believed about myself and what some people in my past had led me to believe.
