This stupendous “Hallelujah!“ is a response to a voice from the throne of God, saying: “Praise our God, all you his servants, you who fear him, both small and great!” (verse 5).
The description of what this “Hallelujah!” sounded like is quite overwhelming - “like a great multitude, like the roar of rushing waters and like loud peals of thunder.” Perhaps the Victoria Falls in a thunder-storm would come near it, but the sun would have to be shining as well!
The final victory song is “Hallelujah!.” The ultimate reason for it and its eternal inspiration is the fact that “Our Lord God Almighty reigns.” The immediate prospect here is the consummation of God’s purpose of redemption, “For the wedding of the Lamb has come and his bride has made herself ready” (verse 7). There is a note of nuptial bliss about this “Hallelujah!” The Church is presented “as a pure virgin” to Christ - in fact he presents her “to himself as a radiant church, without stain or wrinkle or any other blemish, but holy and blameless” (2 Cor. 11:2; Eph. 5:27).
The inevitable response, even if we only catch an echo of this “Hallelujah!” is to worship God in anticipation. “Blessed are those who are invited to the wedding supper of the Lamb” (Rev. 19:9).
