Reasonable Doubtनमुना
The next type of doubt, biblically speaking, is actually a healthy form. How could doubt be healthy? It is healthy because it is categorized by a desire to believe. Consider a very familiar passage of scripture that encapsulates the sentiments of many believers. In Mark chapter 9, Jesus heals a boy after his father brings him to the disciples, but they cannot heal him. In the interaction, Jesus tells the boy’s father that if he can believe, all things are possible (Mark 9:23). The next verse encompasses the experience for many believers.
The father responds, “Lord, I believe; help my unbelief” (Mark 9:24). Can you relate to that sentiment? The boy’s father is saying, “I want to believe, but the reality is there is some unbelief in here that, Lord, you’re going to have to help me with.” Here, the boy’s father acknowledges that he has some doubt about what Jesus can do while also acknowledging that Jesus can supersede it because he desires to believe.
From a practical standpoint, you’d have to say that the man is being reasonable. His son has been dealing with this evil spirit since childhood. However, Jesus didn’t say, “Sorry, man, you got a little too much doubt in there. I can’t help you.” Instead, Jesus cast the evil spirit out and healed his son. This is the love of our Lord and Savior. But the man was vulnerable enough to admit that he was wrestling with some things.
I share this to encourage you that Jesus can and will work with you even if you have some doubts. Your doubts may be about finances, relationships, or job situations. No matter the situation or circumstance, come to Him with it all.
