Day Four

Spend some time in prayer before you begin. Ask God to increase your faith through the reading of this word.

• Read Philippians 3:7-9 again but this time try reading it in a different version than you did before, look up the definitions of words you don’t know, summarize what the passage is saying in your own words.
• Do some research, who wrote the book of Philippians? When was it written? To whom was it written? What genre of writing is it (Historical narrative, poetry, wisdom literature, law, prophesy, parables, epistles)? Why is all of this important?
• Do you think this passage teaches us about God’s creation, man’s sin, God’s redemption of man, or God’s restoration of man to Himself? It can be more than one. Why is it important to think about this?
• How does knowing our righteousness comes from our faith in God change how you view Him? Why do you think having faith in Christ is so important?
• Do you consider everything in your life outside of your faith garbage in comparison to knowing Christ? Why or why not? Note, this does not mean that you cannot enjoy things of this world like your family, food, etc. But instead, knowing Christ is so great that nothing else can compare to it.
• Spend some time in prayer as you close. Ask God to help you desire knowing Him so much that all else seems like garbage!
