Pain & Sufferingनमुना
The hug we all need
I was speaking with someone recently who had reached out for prayer. Her family member was battling cancer and she was feeling overwhelmed with grief, fear, and questions such as ‘Why is this happening to us?’ and ‘We love the Lord, so why are we going through this?’
Before I entered this conversation, I had prayed asking the Lord for words but even then I felt at a loss. Sometimes there are no words to say, ESPECIALLY when we don’t have the answers.
Scripture doesn’t tell us that nothing will ever go wrong, that we will all be miraculously healed, that we will never have to grieve for someone we love. But it does promise us that we don’t go through it alone.
Writing this made me think of my children. Sometimes they will come to me if they are ‘having a sad day, mummy’ and, even though I don’t know exactly why or how to fix it, what they need in that moment is a hug, my presence, my love for them.
As I spoke to this woman on the phone and we were discussing the details of the upcoming appointments, I envisioned the Lord walking into that room holding her hand, standing with His arms wrapped around her as she waited for the results.
He is with you, too. Ask Him to stand with you, to hug you.

The Bible doesn’t say we will live a life free from pain and suffering; in fact, it says the opposite – it says that we WILL experience these things! But as Christians, our faith in the midst of suffering encourages others to lean into God during their suffering. Our hope encourages others to remain hopeful (God’s Faithfulness - Emma Barron).
