Focus On The Joy
"...fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith. For the joy set before him, he endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God."
Hebrews 12:2 NIV
I recently interviewed an author on my podcast, Answering The Call To Write. He was sharing how he struggled with discouragement and despair when the results from publishing a new book, were not what he expected. He said that his antidote to despair was focusing on the joy of creating something new.
When our focus is off, the race becomes difficult. Focusing on results can be a distraction. This may seem like a contradiction to what the world teaches us about going after our goals.
Jesus focused on the joy set before him: You and me!
Focusing on the joy of doing what you are called to do, will help you keep moving forward, even when the results are not showing... yet! The results are not up to us anyway.
Journaling Prompt:
What (or who) is the joy set before you? Ask the Holy Spirit to give you clarity on who you are called to serve, help, or reach.
Declaration of Faith:
Today, I choose to focus on the joy set before me. Jesus is the pioneer and perfecter of my faith.
Prayer:
Heavenly Father,
Thank you for the joy you have set before me.
Remind me that the results of my effort are not on my shoulders but on yours.
Help me to rest in the joy of running my race with You.
In Jesus Name, Amen

You have a race to run. It is difficult to run when there are so many things weighing you down. Cares of this world, distractions, and comparison, to name just a few. This five-day Bible reading plan will help you identify those weights so you can let them go and step into the wide, open spaces that the Father has prepared for you.
