The Spiritual Man's Obstacle Courseनमुना
2. The Course is Set (part 2)
The Way, The Truth, The Life
Jesus told him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one can come to the Father except through me.”
– John 14:6
What’s Truth?
Yours, mine, and ours—which truth matters most? That’s almost the thought pattern our society has taken, isn’t it? In John 18:38, on trial before His crucifixion, Jesus was asked by Pontius Pilate, “What is truth?”
In many cases truth is a matter of perception, or if we are lucky, a matter of what can be proven. Yet, Jesus says that He is the Truth! As in, apart from Him truth becomes a shot in the dark. And in Him there is no falsehood. Jesus is also referred to as the Word of God (John 1:1-5).
So how can we know the truth? By learning to know the word of God! And this word has been put to print by the compilation of various scriptures, inspired by God himself, who spoke through various people over a period of more than 3,000 years—all along telling one big story, pointing to one name—Jesus! Our Bible is Jesus in print! And this truth is our guide along the obstacle course we call life…
“For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints, and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.” – Hebrews 4:12
Read John 1:1-5 and reflect on the following:
- What’s your observation(s) from this reading?
- What's your understanding of Christ being the ever-existing truth of life?
- What’s your biggest obstacle to applying these things in your own life?
- What should you pray about after today’s reading?
