Who Am I

DAY 12 OF 20

From the time we were newborns, we’ve been “earning” our way in this world. When we’re infants, we perform to get smiles and praise. In school, we work for good grades. If we play sports, we work hard for applause and wins. As adults, we work to earn paychecks and promotions. From the very start of our lives, it’s been ingrained in us that we have to work if we want to earn. It’s part of the fabric of the culture we swim in! Work, work, work. Earn, earn, earn. So, it’s a tremendous mental shift for us to believe Paul’s words here in Ephesians. The truth is, in God’s Kingdom, the foundation of our identity in Christ was given to us. We are righteous because God has made it so through Jesus. We did nothing to earn it. But for many, trusting in, resting in, and living in this free gift isn’t something that comes naturally to us. Our hearts need help receiving.

So, ask God to teach you what it looks like to live in that freedom. Ask God to let the truth of His grace and goodness speak louder in your heart than your desire to earn and pay Him back. Pray that He would show you what it looks like to live as His fully forgiven child.
