Resurrection

As believers we are taught to be ‘Christ-like’, but what does it truly mean to be like Christ?

In the book of John, and as you viewed in the clip, Jesus turns to Simon Peter, son of John and asks if he loves Him. Jesus doesn’t do this necessarily to hear that Simon Peter loves Him, but to redeem him from denying Christ before He was crucified.

Jesus also used this moment as a chance to teach Simon Peter a very valuable lesson by using His sheep as a metaphor for God’s people. To truly serve the Lord you must love, trust, follow, and honor Jesus. You do this by following what God has called you to do to glorify Him, and by taking care of His people as you care for yourself.

Jesus demonstrates this in a different way within John 13 when He washes the disciples’ feet, particularly Simon Peter’s. After He finishes washing their feet, Jesus explains to the disciples that while they call Him Teacher and Lord, they should also wash each other’s feet, meaning they should also serve each other. He goes on to say, “I have set you an example that you should do as I have done for you. Very truly I tell you, no servant is greater than his master, nor is a messenger greater than the one who sent him.”

To be Christ-like we must serve each other as Christ has served us. We do this through loving each other through the gifts that God gave each of us. Maybe for you that is through writing or playing music; perhaps it’s through science or cleaning houses. Regardless, it is through that servant, loving attitude that we can truly be Christ-like. Ask yourself today, whose feet do I need to wash today? Who do I need to serve and show love towards?

We are all equal, none of us are better than the other and we are all loved in the eyes of our Lord.
