Lesson Three: The Dimensions to Follow - Dimension No. 1, Praying in Jesus’ Name
Today, we will understand what it means to pray in Jesus’ name, that it is more than just ending our prayers with the phrase “in Jesus’ name”. Some people may think that if they do not use the phrase to end their prayer, their prayer may not be answered like it is a magic password. The fact is that there are three implications of praying in Jesus’ name, and that it is important to apply them in our lives. Otherwise, even if we use the phrase `in Jesus’ name’, to end our prayers, God may not hear.
Praying with His motive.
What have you been praying for the past few weeks? Think of two your two prayer concerns/requests.
According to John 14:13,14, the motive of Jesus in answering prayers offered in His name is that the Father may be glorified in the Son.
Sometimes we have wrong motives in praying. We want to be seen and admired by others (Matthew 6:5) and to satisfy our selfish desires (James 4:3).
So, what is your motive in praying for each of the request you thought of earlier? Will God be glorified if He were to grant these requests?
What happens if you continue to ask for something that will not glorify God? Can you ask God to give you a heart that will seek His glory in the world?
Memory Verse 3A: John 14:13,14
"And whatever you ask in My name, that will I do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son. If you ask Me anything in My name, I will do it."
