Daily Bible Reading - October 2020: God’s Life-Giving Word of Justice and PeacePavyzdys
October 22
Introduction
Today’s reading catalogues the sins of the people and includes a warning of an impending attack from a strong and ancient nation.
Scripture Reading
Jeremiah 5:1-19
Today’s Key Verse: Jeremiah 5:3a
Surely the LORD looks for faithfulness.
Reflect
In verses 4 and 5, Jeremiah speaks of the people who were “poor and ignorant” and “the people in power.” What reason does he give for both groups not doing what God requires? Is ignorance an excuse for not doing what God requires? Why or why not? Reread verses 7-11. What were the sins of the people? Why was their sinful behavior considered an act of betrayal? Micah 6:8 states that “to do what is just, to show constant love, and to live in humble fellowship with our God” is what God requires. In what ways do you exhibit your faithfulness to God and what God requires?
Pray
Lord God, keep me faithful and help me to remember to do what you require and not betray your love for me and the goodness and mercy you bless me with each day. Amen.
Prayer Concern
Those who have experienced betrayal
Tomorrow’s Reading
Jeremiah 5:20-31: The people are warned that the LORD will take revenge.
