그 후에 모압 사람과 암몬 사람이 일부 마온 사람들과 함께 와서 유다 를 침략하였다. 그러자 어떤 사람들이 여호사밧에게 와서 이렇게 보고하였다. “엄청난 대군이 왕을 치려고 사해 건너편 에돔에서 와서 엔 – 게디라고도 부르는 하사손 – 다말을 이미 점령하였습니다.” 여호사밧은 이 보고를 받고 두려워서 여호와께 물어 보기로 결심하고 모든 유다 백성에게 금식 선포령을 내렸다. 그러자 백성들은 여호와께 도움을 구하려고 전국 각처에서 예루살렘으로 모여들었다.
