Red-Letter Day

DAY 8 OF 12

When Jesus said, “I am thirsty,” in the final moments of His earthly life, His words were so much more than just an expression of physical need. He was expressing our need—a thirst that only Jesus can satisfy. Jesus desires us to not only satisfy our thirst with Him, but He also desires to grow us until we respond to the needs of others. Jesus wants you to be a life-giver and help meet the needs of those who thirst.

A perfect example of this is in John 4, when Jesus encountered a Samaritan woman at a well. Jesus didn’t reveal who He was to many people, but He did to this woman, and it teaches us something about thirst. Jesus’ thirst is that we would receive His life, and then in turn, we would become life-giving people. He desires us to give life to others just as He did to the Samaritan woman. Love becomes the centerpiece of our lives when we go from being the needy to the needed.

As you talk with God today in prayer, share your thirst and your need with Him, and answer this question: What steps will I take to go from being needy to needed so that I can help quench the thirst of others?
