Walk This Way

DAY 5 OF 30

Walk in Obedience

Do you sometimes feel like people are constantly asking things of you; whether it is your co-workers, children, spouse, or friends? Whoever it is, you feel there is a demand for your thoughts, time, and energy. So, when you read a passage like this one in Deuteronomy, where Moses calls the Israelites and us to obedience, it seems like one more thing to do.

Yet, the “to-do list” in the passage is for our good. To fear the Lord is not to be afraid of Him but to have an awe-inspired respect that moves our hearts to want to please Him. We are reminded to walk in God’s ways and not our own – a task that is easier said than done.

Moses calls them, and us, to love the Lord God. Love is more than a feeling; it is a decision and an action. We are to choose to love God in all circumstances. Moses further reminds the people and us to serve the Lord our God with all our hearts and souls. Doing everything as unto the Lord, as if it were a service to God (as reiterated in Colossians 3:23). Moses further encourages them and us to keep the Lord’s

Reflect & Pray

Father God, help me today and in the days to come to be obedient to You and the call You have placed on my life. Let my relationship with You not just be a box to be checked but an active response to how You have saved and changed me. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Walk with God
Genesis 6:9 tells us that Noah was a “righteous man, blameless among the people of his time, and he walked with God.” Noah was not perfect, but he had a heart and an ear for God and attempted to follow God. As a result, Scripture says that Noah walked with God.

Wouldn’t it be great to have someone say that about us? The first rule of true success in life is to walk with God. Noah shows us what that was like. Noah’s story should give us encouragement and hope. God is probably not going to call us to build a big boat. But He is going to call us to do something. He is going to call us to step out and trust in Him. He will call us to walk with Him, discover who He designed us to be, and do what He designed us to do. When we begin this walk or continue walking in this way, we will begin to understand what it means to succeed in God’s eyes.

If we are walking with God, being who God has designed us to be, perhaps who the circumstances of our lives have forged us to be, and are doing what God has designed us to do, then day by day, week by week, month by month, at the end of our lives, we will have found success.

About this Plan

Walk This Way

Throughout time, and especially in the Bible, the word “walk” has been used as a metaphor to describe the course, cadence, and overall spiritual direction of our lives. From the Garden of Eden to the present day, part of God’s redemptive call and work is teaching His children to “walk this way,” giving direction, counsel, and guidance to our steps. One thing is clear: He cares how we live our lives and desires that we journey through this life in a way that counts.
