Walk This Way

DAY 8 OF 30

Listen to His Leading

Have you played the game where you stand blindfolded at the edge of an obstacle course, significantly disadvantaged in safely navigating the “minefield” before you? In this challenge, the player is blindfolded and must depend entirely on the sighted partner at the other end to safely guide them through the hazards to the other side.

To succeed, the player must listen to the voice guiding him. This task becomes more difficult as many other would-be guides simultaneously shout “next steps” to their blind partners. Sometimes, it can be overwhelming and even necessary for the player to stop and tune out as many distractions as possible before proceeding.

Our cell phones provide all the distractions needed to impede our proximity to God. Apple and Android, Instagram, and Facebook have done an amazing job providing an endless menu of holy-inhibitors. Let’s take an inventory of our daily lives. What voices are we listening to the most? What or Who is guiding us through the minefields of life?

If we call Him LORD and have yielded our lives to Him, then we are His, and He is ours. In our passage, the psalmist declares, “For the LORD God is a sun and shield; the LORD bestows favor and honor” (Psalm 84:11a). Look no further because, as His child, He is the Light and the Life-Giver that we need; He is our Protector and Provider. When we walk with Him, listening to His voice, trusting in His guidance, His grace flows to us and through us because He is faithful. Just as the sun provides and sustains all life on earth, our heavenly Father has given us ALL we need to live lives that glorify Him.

As you start your day, consider the purpose in your steps. The chaos and trappings of this world can prevent us from seeing what is eternal. But our Heavenly Father gives grace for the journey and glory for the end. (Romans 5:1-2) Listen and focus on His voice. He does not hold back when we walk with Him.

Reflect & Pray

Heavenly Father, Thank you for providing for me because You love me. Thank you for protecting me and wanting to bless my life with honor and favor. Grant my heart the desire to please You above all. May I be diligent in removing distractions daily so that I can hear Your voice. This grateful servant loves You and thanks You. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

About this Plan

Walk This Way

Throughout time, and especially in the Bible, the word “walk” has been used as a metaphor to describe the course, cadence, and overall spiritual direction of our lives. From the Garden of Eden to the present day, part of God’s redemptive call and work is teaching His children to “walk this way,” giving direction, counsel, and guidance to our steps. One thing is clear: He cares how we live our lives and desires that we journey through this life in a way that counts.
