DAY 30 OF 30

Waiting can be hard. Brutally hard. If you’ve ever received a promise from God, and He didn’t fulfill that promise on your schedule, you know what it’s like to feel trapped in a season of barrenness. Perhaps many years ago, you brought your desires to God—for marriage or a child or a new career—and you’re still waiting for His answer. You can probably relate to Abraham and Sarah, who waited years and years for Isaac, or Joseph, who languished in an Egyptian prison, holding onto the dreams God had given him as a young man back in Canaan. There’s no way to sugarcoat things—waiting is not easy. It requires patience and faith and quite a bit of wrestling with God.

In the book of Luke, we meet two people who spent years and years waiting on God—Simeon and Anna. Simeon was promised he would not see death until he saw the Messiah. He waited years and years. Likewise, Anna, a prophetess, was waiting for the redemption God promised His people, and she spent decades worshiping, fasting, and praying. And then, one day, God answered the longings of their hearts. Simeon and Anna were among the first to welcome Jesus into this world. In their joy, the years of waiting were all worth it.

God is faithful. He doesn’t forget us. He hasn’t forgotten you. Hold on to your trust in Him. Cling and claw to it if you need to. There will be hard faith days, and that’s okay. Surely, Anna and Simeon weren’t stalwarts of faith every day in the years they waited. But they were faithful, and they saw what God had promised. You can put the weight of your trust in Him too. God always, always, always keeps His promises.

About this Plan

Reign

History tells many stories of drama regarding kings and queens. This governmental system of power and our fascination with it has existed throughout history—even in Biblical times. In this devotional, we’re going to take a closer look at some of the reigns of the kings who ruled over God’s people and what we can learn from the lives and reigns of the people who led God’s people over the centuries.
